Running your first technical SEO audit

Crawl your site, separate the errors that hurt rankings from the noise, and fix them in the right order.

Crawl the whole site first

Before fixing anything, map what you have. A full crawl surfaces broken links, redirect chains, missing metadata, duplicate titles, and indexability blockers across every page, so you are working from facts rather than hunches.

Triage by severity and traffic

Not every issue deserves attention. Fix errors that block indexing or break user journeys first, weight them by the pages that actually earn traffic, and let low-impact notices wait. Overlaying Search Console data makes this obvious.

Verify the fix, then move on

After a fix, recrawl the affected pages and confirm the issue is gone rather than assuming. Technical SEO is iterative, and a change in one place occasionally introduces a new problem in another.
